原文:Nobody cares about your blog.
I started writing on my blog a few years ago, and I've had plenty of reasons to stop writing since then. Here's a list of why nobody cares about your blog:
- Your blog is not original. There are hundreds of blogs out there, what makes you think your blog stands out?You may just be repeating what you've read elsewhere.
- You are not an expert in your field, otherwise you would not be blogging, but writing essays and giving interviews.
- You are just showing the world how stupid you are.You are just showing the world how stupid you are. If what you say is worse than silence, then you better shut up.
- If anyone cares about your blog at some point, they will only criticize it.Your work is garbage, and exposure will reveal that you are garbage too.
But all of that is not a problem because you shouldn't care what other people think. Here is why I should care about your blog:
- You can use it as a note to your future self.In a few years, you'll have a beautiful journal of how you've evolved over the years.Rereading old texts is like communicating with your past self.
- Free your mind of ideas and the ones you need to get rid of.Even if no one cares about them, writing them down can be a cathartic process.
- Learn to write and express complex ideas. The best way to learn is to teach (even if no one is reading you).As Paul Graham says, writing about something, even if it's something you know well, usually shows that you don't know it as well as you think you do.
- Even if the ideas you share with the world are not original, you can enrich them with your personal perspective. As Bill Thurson says, all of us have a clear understanding of some things, but a vague idea of many more. There is no way to exhaust the ideas that need clarification.
- If you've wasted time solving a hyper-specific problem, you need to write it down and one day you might be a hero. It's also possible that you'll run into the same problem again, and then you'll be a hero in your own right.
- Maintaining a blog is cool, even if it's just from a technical standpoint. It's satisfying to own something completely, even if it's just a few bytes on a remote server in this fantasy world.
- You can say whatever the fuck you want. It's your blog, you don't have to follow any rules.I just cussed and you can't stand by and do nothing because it's my blog and I do what I want.It will give you a sense of freedom, and with all due respect, that's really cool.
P.S..I was about to publish this post and then I started thinking "Why am I publishing this?Who's going to waste their time reading this crap?"But you know what?I just don't care what you think, it's my post and there's nothing you can do about it :)
